MeDirect Malta has supported the launch event of a new Emotional Finance Education Toolkit. This toolkit gives teachers, coaches, youth and social workers new resources to enable discussions with young people, particularly those form disadvantaged backgrounds, about finance, financial decision making and the emotions driving them.
Created as part of an Erasmus+ project by Malta based Ascend Consulting in collaboration with the Universal Interaction Foundation in the Netherlands and Italy based Saffex srls, the toolkit covers seven modules and numerous videos which, among other aspects, focus on how emotional intelligence and social media literacy are critical to financial education and wellbeing.
Anamaria Magri Pantea from Ascend Consulting, said, “Financial literacy is a key skill which many in the GenZ generation seem to be lacking with research suggesting that issues such as climate anxiety are making young people think less about the future. This, coupled with the impact of social media where information on financial wellbeing and wealth building can be less than 100 per cent reliable, means that educators need new approaches to tackle conversations about money. This toolkit is designed specifically to help start and guide those conversations.”
The launch event, held at MCAST, not only provided an opportunity to describe and explain the toolkit and how it has been developed but also created a forum for immediate feedback from educators, industry representatives and other stakeholders on possible additions and improvements.
Ingrid Micallef, Head of Wealth at MeDirect Malta, said, “Financial literacy is at the heart of our strategy to give customers the ability to build their wealth with confidence and autonomy. Initiatives such as this toolkit play an important role in giving adults the tools they need to engage with young people about money. It is through spreading knowledge and understanding that we can improve financial literacy and better financial decision making. ”
