Spanning between 1905 and 1947, this vocal chamber music recital of works by Barber, Bliss, and Berg identifies three different compositional languages that coexisted in America, Britain, and Germany in the first half of the twentieth century. The picture of summer in Knoxville, Tennessee in Samuel Barber’s 1947 “lyric rhapsody,” is contrasted with the light-hearted pastoral images of ‘The Ragwort’ and ‘The Daffodil’ in Arthur Bliss’s Two Nursery Rhymes (1921). The recital concludes with Alban Berg’s colourful Sieben frühe Lieder (1905-1908) in a sextet arrangement for voice, piano, clarinet and strings.
Barber, Bliss and Berg will be held at Teatru Manoel on the 23rd October at 8.00pm. Tickets can be purchased through the Teatru Manoel’s website www.teatrumanoel.com.mt or from Teatru Manoel’s box office.
