After having formed part of the senior playing squad for 2020, experienced players Dean Camilleri and Claudio Spiteri DeBarro were offered their first stint at coaching. Unfortunately the advent of Covid-19 brought havoc to their plans. Training was suspended and the Winter League was called off and thus they Otters squad lost a golden opportunity to gel together in preparation for the Summer League which was played without foreign players. However Otters strengthened the team by signing Marc Lanzon and Luke Gialanze on permanent deals and Maltese/British player Dominique Zahra returned from Edinburgh to play for the Club. Yet the season provided quite a few unpleasant surprises, four players suffered serious injuries and two players were unavailable for a couple of weeks. So considering all these obstacles the Coaches and Team had a satisfactory season getting a few positive results and other close scores.
The Under 15 and Under 13 Teams had good seasons. The Under 15s, under the guidance of Steve Dimech, qualified for the top tier and apart from losing to the title contestants Neptunes and Sliema, they had a close fight for third place with Sirens.
The Under 13s were coached by Jean-Luc Zahra. They placed fifth from the eight participating teams.
Once again this summer’s edition of the Swimming and Waterpolo School was very well attended and expertly marshalled by Head Coach John Borg.
MeDirect strongly believes in sports and is a proud supporter of Otters ASC.
